I’m going to start this review off by saying Idalys Is one of the sweetest most attention given waxers I have had in a very long time. I have been waxing for over five years and when waxer moved out of state, I had to find a new person, and I came to Velvet and fell in love! The space is welcoming, my wax is always on POINT! Idalys is a kind hearted, educated waxer! My ingrown hairs have been very minimal with their 3 of a kin scrub which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I’ve been in Madison for 20 years and had good, bad, and average waxes all over the city. This was maybe my third time coming here and had a great experience with Idalys. It took 20 years to finally have someone wax me who looked like me. I really enjoyed chatting about our families and shared experiences. As a first time waxee, I did a lot of research when looking up a place to go to in Madison. I found this place had the best reviews and the most returning customers. I am very pleased to say that I can vouch for those reviews after receiving services.

I am a transmasculine person, so that also contributed to my nerves and worries. I called ahead to make sure I was prepared coming in and they gave me all the information i needed and even moved my appointments closer to each other!

The person at the desk was so friendly and welcoming and I was checked in super super fast. When I went in to get my first waxing (I booked two services), I explained it was my first time. I was given a very thorough breakdown of what would be happening and was given plenty of time before, during, and after the service to ask any questions and express if anything was uncomfortable. I was given time to change and a hot towel to get any remaining wax off in case i felt any stickiness anywhere.

My 2nd service went just as well. During the services i was also asked if the temperature was fine and if I was doing alright. The temperature was never too hot, it was perfect! I came in super nervous and I didn't realize when I became relaxed until i started thinking about it. They do such a great job at making sure you are comfortable and that you know your voice is heard and that you are free to express any discomfort you have.

Throughout the two services I never felt uncomfortable or out of place. They really are all professionals, not just in their field, but in customer service and hospitality. I am beyond amazed. I mainly did this just to try something new, and my experience was so positive that I am planning on becoming a regular.

I got a Brazilian by Idalys and let me just tell you, A+++++ SHE WAS AMAZING. She is a new employee and I was a model she practiced on, but I highly recommend asking for her if you go to velvet! It was my first time ever getting waxed but she made me feel super comfortable — no awkwardness at all even though my goods were just all laid out in front of her. She was very accommodating to my needs, for ex I am a wimp and definitely yelled a little bit but she was so sweet about it, let me take breaks when I needed, and even started switching sides every other strip because it felt better for me rather than the doing all of one side before moving on to the next! She was so chill and like I said I’ve never had this done before so I was nervous about how intimate we were gonna get, but she was so professional about it! It was so easy to hold a convo with her which is also a huge reason i would recommend her! Very easy going and overall was the main reason my experience went so well! I was in and out in under 45 minutes 🙂

I just tried Velvet (downtown) for the first time and will not be going anywhere else! I saw Rosa and everything was done super detailed and fast. I have dark and thick hair so the details are really important to me, and I will definitely only be coming here from now on. It’s also way more affordable than I’m used to for even higher quality service. Not to mention their studio is adorable and everything smells good. It’s perfect location especially for someone living downtown. I simply hadn’t heard of Velvet since I was used to going to chains, but I’m so glad I tried it!
